My name is Joseph Jacobs (or Joe for short). I was born and raised in Kajang, Malaysia. I am a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at University College London (UCL). My primary supervisor is Prof. Daniel Alexander and I am a member of his research group - the Microstructure Imaging Group (MIG) - which is part of the Centre for Medical Image Computing (CMIC). I am also supervised by Dr. Eleftheria Panagiotaki and Dr. Gabriel Brostow.
Before joining MIG I was a Software Development Intern and then a Data Scientist at Signal Media. Prior to that I was a graduate student at UCL, studying for an MSc in Machine Learning. My dissertation project was on the application of machine learning methods for automatically grading prostate cancer from histology, under the supervision of Prof. Alexander and Dr. Panagiotaki.
My main research interests are machine learning and its application to medical imaging, healthcare and computer vision.
